Immediate Supervisor:         Deli Manager


Under the direction of the Deli Department Manager, responsible for working closely with all deli associates in an effort to keep the deli department stocked and full of fresh product.


Deli Department Leaders guide a team of Associates who make mealtime easy by offering guests more time with their families by providing convenient, delicious and ready-to-eat meals.

Job Description


  • Reinforces Festival culture, guest service, and performance expectations to all deli associates
  • Assists in training new deli associates and completing training checklists for all counter associates
  • Ensures coverage of no less than one associate is on the counter from 8am-8pm daily
  • Responsible for completion of weekly associate evaluation of company standard in guest service expectations (Ten Tile)
  • Provides excellent services to all guests
  • Assists guests with finding items they are looking for on or off the sales floor
  • Takes orders and other special requests
  • Answers the telephone and assists guests using proper phone etiquette
  • Addresses guest concerns and resolves issues when a guest is not satisfied with the service or product received, if in need further assistance, bring concern to Deli Manager
  • Watches over service case
  • Quality control
  • Makes sure products are rotated, using first in first out method
  • Takes over presentation of service case, making sure everything is decorated for the upcoming holiday or special event
  • Garnishes product to meet Deli standards
  • Makes sure case and everything around it is clean and tidy; no messes or spills
  • Be sure to have “New Item” signs and change out signs if things are on sale to the correct price
  • Fills cupboards with containers, lids, spoons, tags, etc.
  • Inventory and Temperatures
  • Takes temperatures of everything regularly and complete necessary logs
  • Keeps slicer log up to date
  • Assists manager in counting inventory
  • Assists all department associates with daily responsibilities while leading by example
  • Contributes to overall cleanliness of the department by picking up, organizing, and cleaning work areas, shelving, and sales floor as needed
  • Required to maintain food safety logs
  • Ensures all quality standards are being met, including quantity expectations at 100% at 10 am and 5 pm
  • Regular, timely attendance in compliance with the work schedule, and adequate notice to find a replacement for occasional absences
  • Other duties as assigned

  • Ability to deal tactfully and effectively with guests and all personnel
  • Good oral and written communication skills and the ability to handle a diverse crew in a highly stressful environment
  • Complete understanding of all safety requirements and company safety policies
  • Must possess the ability to apply on-the-job safety training to recognize and react to possible safety hazards on store premises. Also requires proper training and knowledge of the following equipment/procedures: slicers, proper lifting techniques, trash compactor, baler
  • Knowledge of the retail food business, thorough knowledge of perishable department operations, merchandising skills, and must be able to make timely and effective decisions
  • Personality traits to include motivating, outgoing, and friendly
  • Must be comfortable suggestive selling additional products or promotions to guests
  • Food Serv certification is preferred, or must obtain if the candidate does not currently hold the certifications


  • Lifting up to 50 pounds on an occasional basis
  • Full range of upper body motion
  • Must be able to work at a fast pace
  • May be exposed to extreme temperatures


  • The Deli Service Counter Manager is a full time hourly position
  • The shift to be worked will be a morning shift, including weekdays, weekends, and holidays
