Job Summary

Reports To:         IT Infrastructure Director

 

The Database Administrator position performs all aspects of data and database administration including logical and physical database implementation, review database designs, perform data security administration, database backup and recovery design and execution, database capacity planning, database performance and tuning, research and evaluation of new tools and techniques, and development of governance, policies, standards and procedures related to the database environment.

Job Description

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

 

  • Support and maintain Microsoft SQL database applications.
  • System tuning, performance monitoring, and database maintenance.
  • Develop reports and custom requests for users.
  • Assist with day-to-day application and user support when needed.
  • Implements complex data models and logical database designs.
  • Design, construct and implements physical databases.
  • Develop, revise and implement policies, standards, procedures and guidelines necessary to effectively administer the database environment.
  • Plan and conduct structured testing of database designs to confirm functionality and performance.
  • Develop and implement plans to oversee the data and database administration function and ensures smooth transition to new technology.
  • Perform routine and customary operational and monitoring activities to ensure the database environment is stable and capable of meeting ongoing business needs.
  • Plan and executes testing and implementation of major systems.
  • Evaluate technology and techniques to implement and maintain databases and database environment
  • Work with IT to patch related Database Management System (DBMS).
  • Engineer and maintain high availability of database environment.
  • Support company data warehouse efforts.
  • Assist with migrating databases between cloud and on premise.
  • Manage data replication and Extract, Transform and Load (ETL) technologies.
  • Assist with the development, testing and maintenance of the company’s Disaster Recovery (DR) plan.
  • Develop, implement and test backup and recovery plans.
  • Documentation of work, maintenance of existing standards and procedures
  • Maintain reporting and data integration processes using SSRS and SSIS
  • Develop custom database objects (T-SQL scripts, stored procedures, tables, views, functions)
  • Perform other related duties as required and assigned.

 

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science, MIS or any related IT or Engineering field of study
  • Minimum five years of experience as a DBA or Data Engineer
  • Ability to prioritize and perform multiple tasks independently.
  • Strong problem solving and general analytical skills.
  • Strong understanding and enthusiasm for emerging technologies.
  • Excellent communication skills both written and verbal.
  • Ability to work individually and in a team environment.

  • SQL
  • Oracle, SQL Server, MySQL
  • Windows operating systems
  • Familiarity with cloud database services
  • Relational and analytical databases
  • Data Modeling
  • Backup and recovery methodologies
  • Query optimization and performance tuning
  • Familiarity with database queries
  • Knowledge of database design and theories
  • Ability to work with data architects, data engineers and other IT specialist to set up, maintain and monitor database platforms
  • Basic familiarity and experience with server installation and maintenance
  • Knowledge of IT security best practices

 

PHYSICAL DEMANDS AND WORK ENVIRONMENT

  • The Database Adminsitrator is a full-time, salaried position. Required to provide on call support (weekends and holidays), and occasional travel as needed.
  • Sitting/Standing at a computer 80% of the time.
