Job Description

The Construction Superintendent will be responsible for leading a team of subcontractors, in conjunction with a construction manager, through new and remodeled grocery store construction, and will work closely with our Store Planning Project Managers, facilities team, and store leadership teams.  The position will require proven experience and understanding of all divisions of construction, including but not limited to; refrigeration, MEP’s, concrete, site/civil, utilities, jobsite safety & OSHA requirements, finishes, masonry, steel, permitting, and general construction.

 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Leads, monitors, and directs projects onsite, throughout our portfolio, from start through completion.
  • Oversee, coordinate, and manage the following daily onsite activities:
    1. Manage construction site progress as it relates to the overall schedule, identifying long leadtime items and problem-solving supply chain issues and delays that arise to remain on the critical path
    2. Ensure that all forms of delay by contractors due to conflicting project elements are prevented
    3. Problem solving onsite of construction discrepancies, issues, changes
    4. Coordination between the external construction teams and the internal Festival store teams
    5. Progress pictures and site updates to designated Festival stakeholders
    6. Coordinate with the onsite Construction Receiver for equipment deliveries and staging plans 
    7. Work closely with the Festival direct contractors onsite (fixture setting, furniture, décor installation, and IT equipment)
    8. Proactively seek out areas of concern on projects and come up with possible solutions (back up plans) before they become a bigger issue.
    9. Maintain oversight of all construction standards, techniques, quality expectations, jobsite cleanliness, and workplace safety
    10. Act as a liaison by accompanying stakeholders and answering questions during site visits
  • Manage and maintain construction project schedules on site from start through completion in conjunction with the Project Manager
  • Follow up on all punch list, outstanding, and call back items after project completion and make sure all items are resolved.
  • Ensure store level associate and guest needs are always being met on site during active remodels by closely collaborating with Store leadership daily during projects.
  • Collaborate closely with internal teams and external vendors / subcontractors to coordinate their timing and activities during projects
  • Daily trips to current store projects and new construction sites
  • Work closely with the Festival Maintenance Manager, Maintenance Market Leads, and Mobile Maintenance Teams to collaborate on projects in store, as well as for new store build set up needs
  • Other duties as assigned.

 

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Degree in Construction Management, Construction Engineering, or equivalent relevant construction jobsite experience
  • Minimum 5 years of construction supervision or related experience
  • Proficient in written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to use Outlook, Word, Excel, Microsoft Office and MS Project
  • Organized, professional, resourceful, proactive, reliable and have a strong attention to detail
  • Work independently to make decisions based on the information provided and know when to ask questions
  • Ability to fully understand and navigate construction plans, documents, and specifications
  • Ability to oversee multiple projects in multiple locations at the same time
  • Ability to navigate stressful, fast paced, high pressure situations while maintaining a calm, professional and thoughtful composure.

  • The employee must possess the ability to sit or stand in place for long periods of time; walk extensively in the store or on the jobsite; bend, stoop and kneel and lift items regularly. 
  •  Requires fine finger and broad manual dexterity, and eye-hand-foot coordination in order to operate laptops, cellular devices and tablets.

WORK SCHEDULE

The Construction Superintendent is a full-time, salaried position. The work schedule will include mornings, afternoons, evenings, weekends, and holidays.
