Job Summary

This role is based on-site at our Green Bay area support office in De Pere, Wisconsin! 


Open due to an internal promotion, this role will implement and continuously improve how Festival Foods plans and manages store labor expenses across our family of stores. Directly reporting to our SVP Store Operations, and leading a team of 3, our Labor & Productivity team collectively delivers the tools, reports, dashboards & insights to drive our value of execution, and serves as a resource to store leadership teams regarding labor processes and programs.

The Labor and Productivity Director is responsible for developing,  implementing and continuously improving how Festival Foods plans and manages store labor expenses across all locations.   


Responsible for managing all Process Improvement on a company-wide scale in the areas of cost reduction, performance improvement, product development and other operational initiatives.

Job Description



  • Responsible for directing and planning operational efficiencies for all store departments in collaboration with Store Directors, Department Directors and Department Managers.
  • Uses data and insights delivering self-service tools to other teams
  • Develops, enhances, and supports labor productivity tools to drive cost reduction decisions
  • Leads team to collectively deliver tools, reports, dashboards, and insights to drive execution at store level
  • Serves as resource to store leadership teams by providing coaching, training and follow-up regarding all labor processes and programs
  • Collaborate with Support department teams with labor analytics, labor cost projections, and ad hoc associate analytics
  • Work with all levels of leadership to address the company’s most critical business issues as it pertains to labor productivity and process improvement.
  • Directs and maintains the accuracy and credibility of the Labor Management System consistent with retail operations standard practices.
  • Leads team to complete and execute on store productivity events (using Use Lean and Six Sigma methodologies) and facilitate store/department auditing and follow up. Produce supporting reporting pre and post event.
  • Leads team to ensure the continual updating of all training materials for store processes
  • Develop and review analytics such as percent productive, hours variances, and other metrics to identify productivity challenges and opportunities
  • Continuously improve the Labor Management System. Seek achievable productivity improvements that benefit guests, employees, and the company
  • Participate in initiatives directed at improvements in the retail productivity program and corresponding labor management systems/tools resulting in enhanced productivity in stores
  • Create and utilize analytical output reporting to identify productivity/payroll challenges and opportunities. Deliver results and recommendations to retail management.
  • Communicate opportunities, and progress to appropriate leaders and provide resources regarding the Labor Management System, operational productivity goals, and retail payroll results
  • Develop, participate in, and execute action plans that address and resolve payroll/productivity opportunities.
  • Supports a learning environment in the areas of the Labor Management System, labor scheduling, productivity, and payroll results. Educate retail store leadership teams and department leadership in the concepts and effective utilization of the Labor Management System
  • Identifies the issues plaguing productivity from a high level, tracing the problems back to their root cause supported by data, and then develop and implement solutions
  • Develop ‘to-be’ process flows and process change diagrams to identify needed organizational and workflow changes Discuss the “Guest Scorecard” results with all levels of leadership within and outside of stores and create corrective actions as needed
  • Develop action plans designed to gain positive “Guest Scorecard” results
  • Lead contact with the research company SMG as it pertains to all aspects of the “Guest Scorecard” results
  • Other duties as assigned



  • College education required; or equivalent work experience.
  • Experience leading a grocery or retail labor/productivity team
  • Lean Six Sigma Green Belt or above
  • Retail background with demonstrated strong experience and/or knowledge of Retail Operations and labor scheduling.
  • Exceptional analytical skills.
  • Comfort with PC based applications (including Labor Optimizer/Scheduler, and SMG results) with the ability to learn, understand them.
  • Strong excel skills required
  • Posesses the leadership skills necessary to influence results.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills including an effective negotiation style.
  • Excellent planning and organizational skills, with the ability to manage multiple and constantly changing priorities.
  • Strong teamwork skills with the desire to train and educate others within the organization.

  • The employee must possess the ability to sit/stand in place for long periods of time (up to 75% of the time); walk in the store; bend, stoop and kneel regularly.  Requires fine finger and broad manual dexterity, and eye-hand-foot coordination in order to operate equipment. 
  • Requires the ability to perform repetitive tasks for prolonged periods of time.
  • Must possess functional sensory abilities in order to visually monitor the store, create attractive displays, and to operate equipment.
  • The position requires the employee to lift up to 50 pounds on an occasional basis.
