Job Title:  Banquet Manager

FLSA Status: Salary

Reports To:  Assistant General Manager

 

The Banquet Manager provides overall leadership to the banquet department.  This will include on premise banquets and focus on off-premise catering.  Responsible for long and short term planning and day-to-day operations of the Marq’s Banquet department, recommends policy and procedural changes; implements and monitors department’s budget and manages expenses within approved budget constraints

 

 

Job Description

Essential Functions:

  • Responsible for day to day operations, including food, beverage and concession services
  • Greet all guests and assist them in any way
  • Maintaining standards of guest service established by The Marq
  • Communicate effectively, both orally and in writing with associates and guests
  • Ensure service levels are maintained to the highest degree to exceed guest expectations
  • Coordinate functions and any changes as compared to daily catering function sheets
  • Assist with scheduling and staff coordination
  • Hire, terminate, schedule, coaches, fill time-off requests, and perform development appraisals
  • Analyze data and make decisions based on experience and knowledge of circumstances to assist

     with sales forecasting and labor control

  • Develops, maintains and monitors catering and set up staff training program including: orientation to department, teamwork concept, organization of equipment, organization of operational procedures, and emergency procedures
  • Prepare all necessary reports and payroll sheets correctly and on time
  • Attend department head and function sheet meetings to provide insight of problems and carries though with suggested changes
  • Maintain a safe, sanitary and orderly work area at all times
  • Handle all customer concerns personally and directly
  • Ensure bills, invoices and charges are accurate
  • Holds monthly continuous improvement meetings with all department leaders
  • Perform all banquet equipment upkeep, dish inventory, and requisitions
  • Devise, implement, and maintain cost controls as compared to budgeted levels
  • Inventories all event related products inclusive of all liquor products and supplies, equipment , china and smallwares
  • Maintain all operating procedures and controls in order to achieve The Marq’s budgeted

     financial goals

  • Ensure the efficient operation of catering functions by coordinating and providing direction as

     needed to catering personnel

  • Monitor catering staff throughout event to ensure customer service meets expectations, offering

     training and direction

  • Adhere to all of The Marq’s security procedures to ensure guest safety
  • May be outdoors to assist client with materials or supplies, or to service an outdoor event
  • Often required to work rapidly within time constraints. Must be able to shift activities quickly

Accountabilities:

  • Maintain a polite, positive and attentive attitude at all times
  • Ability, to work a flexible working schedule, due to the cyclical nature of our business.
  • Safety; prohibit conduct that would cause injury or danger to guests or staff members
  • Works as a team member of the banquet and catering department
  • Be on the floor supervising when functions are in progress to ensure proper service and customer satisfaction
  • Ensure all proper food and beverage safety guidelines are met per Health Department standards
  • Provide a healthy work environment by implementing staff ideas and correcting difficulties
  • Responsible for: cleanliness and organization of all storage areas and banquet rooms, maintenance and storage of banquet furniture, upkeep and care of all audio-visual equipment and set-up aids, organization and appearance of all banquet rooms, set up of outdoor functions
  • Report daily to the Assistant General Manager and advise of any changes, problems, or ideas
  • Report immediately all damages, lost or stolen property, misconduct of employees, unhappy guests to the Assistant General Manager
  • Focus on the details and ensures all guest expectations are met
  • Actively participate in Festival Foods Continuous Improvement Process
  • Understanding of all The Marq policies and practices as outlined in the associate handbook
  • Communicates with all department managers, supervisors, and employees on activities or information that requires service or assistance from the banquet & catering department
  • Ensures sufficient par levels of stock are on hand for all functions
  • Orients all banquet and catering staff with on the job training on specific job responsibilities, “order of service” and general guest service techniques
  • Assist with ordering and inventory of bar products
  • Other duties as assigned by management
  • The Marq business functions 365 days a year, 24 hours a day. All management and employees must realize this fact and be aware that, at times, it may be necessary to move an employee from his/her accustomed shift as business

 

Qualification Standards:

  • Previous Supervisory position in a similar hospitality operation
  • Ability to train new employees
  • Ability to carry out standards of service as determined by The Marq
  • Knowledge of various types of equipment and service styles
  • Proficient with a computer. Additional POS and catering software experience preferred
  • Strong communication skills, both written and verbal
  • Vision with or without the help of eyewear
  • Sense of hearing required
  • Interacts verbally with guests
  • Reading and writing skills required
  • Carry service trays up to 49 pounds to and from kitchen when necessary
  • Walks and stands most of shift (walk approximately 10 miles per shift)
  • Bend, stoop, reach, lift (good physical condition)
  • Ability to work in high urgency and stressful situations
  • Ability to serve tables when necessary
  • Valid driver's license, with reputable record
  • Math and calculator skills required
  • Ability to become CPR & First Aid trained
  • Ability to obtain any government required license or certificate
