Job Title: Meat Apprentice Cutter 

Reports To: Mead Department Manager 

Join our team as a Meat Apprentice Cutter and you will receive comprehensive training across all aspects of the meat department, including service counter operations, processed meats, sausage and grinding, sanitation, and more. Your goal? To become a skilled Meat Cutter and advance your career as opportunities arise. 

In this role, you will be the go-to expert for our guests, whether they are prepping meals for a snowy December tailgate, hosting a summer BBQ, or preparing a holiday ham. Your exceptional service and expert tips will help our guests feel confident in seasoning and cooking every cut of meat to perfection. 

 

Job Description

What You’ll Do: 

As a Meat Apprentice Cutter at Festival Foods, your responsibilities will include: 

  • Provide Exceptional Guest Service: Providing excellent guest service is at the heart of what we do.  Whether it’s a friendly greeting, answering questions or addressing guest concerns, you’ll handle each interaction with professionalism and care. Your willingness to help guests with what they need will make a positive impact every day. 
  • Master Meat Cutting: You will gain hands-on experience in all aspects of grocery meat cutting production including learning to cut, trim, grind, wrap, and marinate a variety of meats.  
  • Increase Sales with Quality Meat Displays: By ensuring our meat cases are always stocked with visually appealing products, you will help boost sales and provide an exceptional shopping experience for our guests. 
  • Minimize Meat Waste: You will follow specific meat production lists, trim standards, and recipes to reduce shrinkage and ensure every cut of meat is handled with care. 
  • Deliver Expertise: Whether our guests need advice on the perfect cut of meat for their meal or assistance with special requests, your expert knowledge of meat cutting and food service will help them make confident choices. 
  • Maintain Meat Department Standards: You will assist in keeping the meat department organized, clean, and fully stocked while ensuring that all meat quality standards are met. 
  • Honor Commitments: Regular, timely attendance in compliance with the work schedule, and adequate notice to find a replacement for occasional absences. 
  • Support the Team: Other duties as assigned. 

What We’re Looking For: 

To succeed as a Festival Foods Meat Apprentice Cutter, you should have: 

  • Guest Service Expertise: A strong ability to interact effectively with guests and team members while providing excellent service in the meat department. 
  • Meat Safety Knowledge: A thorough understanding of food safety practices and the ability to identify potential hazards when working with meat products and butcher equipment/meat cutting machinery. 
  • Experience: Familiarity with the retail food business, particularly in meat cutting and meat department operations. You must have the ability to recognize 
  • Safety Measures: You must be able to apply on-the-job training to recognize and react to safety hazards on store premises and make timely and effective decisions.  
  • Team-Oriented Approach: Willingness to assist in all areas of the meat department as needed. 
  • Age Requirement: Must be 18 years of age or older.

  • Stand in one place for an extended period of time, bend, stoop, and kneel regularly. 
  • Lifting up to 80 pounds on a frequent basis.  
  • Frequently being near moving machinery.

  • Repetitive motion of hands and wrists. 

 

Work Schedule: 

This full-time role includes mornings, afternoons, weekends, and holidays, with flexibility to work evenings or overnight as needed.
